One of the most beautiful places of Hawaii, the natural reserve of Hanauma Bay has just been voted the best beach in the United States in 2016 by Dr. Beach. The list of the top ten beaches in America is annually published by Professor Stephen Leatherman, a specialist in coastal science. Over 50 criteria are considered to make the choices, including safety, quality of water and sand and environmental sustainability. Hanauma already figured in the list in previous years and has now reached the deserved top.
Located on the Southeast of the island of Oahu, Hanauma Bay and full of corals and has calm waters, which makes it ideal for snorkeling, with an incredible variety of fish species, many of them endemic, which means they can only be found in the archipelago. Over there you can observe local marine life up close, including honus, how the sea turtles are called in Hawaii. Another Hawaiian beach also made it to the list of Dr. Beach: Kapalua Bay Beach, on Maui. Last year’s winner was Waimanalo Beach, also in Hawaii (Oahu), where our sister company Hawaii Eco Weddings does a lot of beautiful weddings and vows renewal ceremonies.
Hanauma Bay is not open on Tuesdays and is open to public every other day from 6am to 6pm. Visitors pay a $ 7.50 fee to enter and local residents doesn’t need to pay. You can take your own snorkel equipment or rent it there. Check out more information about Hanauma on the official website of the state park and start planning your trip to Hawaii!
