a group of people swimming in a pool of water

The main thing you will learn is to oxygenate your body more efficiently. The results? More focus, energy, and increased breath hold ability in the water, which boosts your performance and safety — key ingredients for survival. Next course: July 21stand 22nd on Oahu, HI — lifeguards don’t pay!

Apnea students, in Chile, ready to train!

After teaching more than 150 surfers, lifeguards, distance swimmers, and divers in Brazil and Chile in April, May and June, Hawaii Eco Divers is offering the Apnea and Surf Survival course in Hawaii again. The next training will be on July 21st and 22nd, on Oahu. Why shouldn’t you miss it? This 2-day seminar is invaluable for you to improve performance and safety in the water. The course’s main goal is to increase the participants’ breath hold ability in tense situations underwater, while remaining calm and in total control of their mind.

How it is done

The apnea training for surfers includes different techniques of apnea and breathing exercises to fully oxygenate the body. This help the participants strengthen and increase the capacity of their lungs. The course also enhances the participants’ mental ability to deal with stress and danger. Therefore, they will be better equipped to deal with extreme situations in the water, where mind control and calmness are main factors for survival.

The training emphasizes High Surf Risk Management as well. The objective is to recognize, minimize or avoid unnecessary risks found in the surf zone. Together, the students will work through various surf rescue scenarios, and learn valuable rescue strategies based on the specific situation at hand.

Classroom: physiology of apnea

Pool: breathing exercises

Beach: CPR practice
