Apnea training reaches lifeguards, surfers and marine officials in Chile

South American surfers and lifeguards are having the opportunity to participate of the apnea and survival training season that Hawaii Eco Divers is offering in Brazil, Chile and Peru. In May, the training happened in Valparaiso (CHI), Pichilemu (CHI), Sao Paulo – Boissucanga (BRA) and Rio de Janeiro (BRA), and next week it will head to Pico Alto (PER). The course is taught by surfer and professional diver Ricardo Taveira, who already trained world-renowned surfers like Nathan Fletcher, Adriano de Souza, Filipe Toledo and many others, and also lifeguards from beaches with huge waves, such as Waimea Bay, on the North Shore of Oahu, in Hawaii.

While in Chile, Taveira also worked with the Navy officers (Marines) of the country. “I was lucky enough to meet a captain of the life-guards in Valparaiso, a city with a lot of maritime activity, and with his help we organized a class only for rescue professionals,” says the diver, who describes this experience as one of the most rewarding of his career. Also in Chile, in Pichilemu, Ricardo offered the training for free for lifeguards and local surf instructors who could not afford the course. About 70 Chileans had the opportunity to learn techniques of apnea, rescue and survival with the Hawaii Eco Divers training. Next week the course will make its way to Pico Alto in Peru.
