JOHN JOHN FLORENCE WINS EDDIE AIKAU 2016

Hawaiian John John Florence (23 years old) started 2016 on fire by winning the ninth edition of Quicksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau big-wave invitational championship. The heats lasted all day yesterday, February 25, at Waimea Bay, on Oahu’s North Shore. The local surfer became the second youngest winner of this event, which was held last time in 2009.

Eddie Aikau’s younger brother, Clyde Aikau (66 years old), also competed, and said the he has never seem Waimea Bay with better conditions than yesterday. The waves were reaching up to 50 feet all day and some unbeliavable wipe outs could be seen, some involving broken boards.
